2.1 Why teach science in the primary school?
Science derives from the child’s natural interest in things around him and leads him to discover and experiment on certain things by himself. Science Links the child with his environment — both at school and at home. Science has a practical value. The knowledge acquired through science is useful for development in all aspects of life. The processes and skills of science can be usefully employed in children’s everyday activities. As a sound mind-trainer, it helps children to observe and to recognize the importance of asking for, obtaining and testing evidences before drawing conclusions. It also helps them to appreciate the value of trying things out practically, by way of experiments. Science helps to train good citizens by preparing them for a world of science. It also as well as helps to eliminate unnecessary fears and superstition.
