Definitions: Evaluation is the analysis and application of value judgement for certain outcomes for the improvement of education. It is the determination of the worth of a programme. Assessment as an aspect of evaluation is finding out how proficient a student is.
It helps to determine the degree of development and learning achieved by pupils. When the assessment is given to correct procedure in the course of a unit, a formative evaluation is said to take place but when it is given at the end of a unit to determine the effectiveness of the whole system, it is summative evaluation. Roles of Evaluation/Assessment: Evaluation/Assessment plays a number of positive and negative roles.
