Preface to the Book
This book Intercession and Healing in Ministry is written with absolute faith in the ability of the Holy Spirit to associate with man and bring about physical manifestations. Matters of intercession and healing are extended beyond the spiritual and given human dimensions. The author’s background has influenced its delivery, no doubt, and the structure of the book may not be common in ecclesiastical literature, but the contents are inspired in obedience to the Spirit that gives knowledge. Experiences within and outside the Bible are used to illustrate manifestations of the Word in the human realm. The book is also prescriptive; every scripture cited will support prayers, and will also strengthen one’s faith in the knowledge that God will answer prayers and give healing and deliverance when He is requested to do so.The Lord will enhance understanding of the reader in the power of intercessions, and he will boldly take up challenges in his Church and society to God in prayers and obtain results. The Lord will honor the pleadings of the intercessor proportional to the love which the intercessor has for Him. The sick and afflicted will be healed and those in bondage will be delivered and set free; wayward churches and leaders of the society will be restored to the path of righteousness.
Preface to the Bible College Project
The project titled Relationships between Intercession and Healing in Ministry(from which the present book is developed) was originally submitted to the Redeemed Bible College, Lagos, as a partial requirement for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Theology. The aim of the project was to unravel the relationships existing between intercessions and healing in ministry (where healing was broadly defined to include restorations and deliverance which may also occur in non-human things). To achieve this aim, the literature on intercession and healing was searched and supported with Bible texts.Questionnaires were administered to obtain opinions from Church ministers, prayer-minded Christians and laymen. Intercession and healing were found to be intricately related, often with overlapping spiritual gifts and functions. Sickness and lost souls occupied most of the intercession time among believers; these were found to be dependent on the thrusts or emphases in individual Churches and congregations, and could vary from time to time. Sadly, sin attracted low intercession time, while backbiting; a common sin specifically attracted the least time. This was considered an unhealthy trend in Christianity. The implication was that sins were generally being overlooked and considered less important in bringing to maturity the Body of Christ. The various relationships of intercession to healing and the variants of healing were also viewed in the light of scriptural revelations and personal experiences.
